In-Stead Art Collective
Sleep Bedder proudly showcases the creative works of a growing community of local makers we call The In-Stead Art Collective. The cathartic processes of this bunch result in artistic expression in a variety of forms that function as home haven items available in our shop.
In other words, Sleep Bedder North Park supports the local artist community who creates locally, sustainably, by hand, with love.
Sheena Rae Dowling is an active member of In-Stead Art Collective. She Lives and works in San Diego and has exhibited in many galleries and museums locally including Sleep Bedder!
In-Stead Art Collective is featuring the dreamy works of Kaitlyn Mauer!

The furniture we feature is sustainably conceptualized and is often the product of a cathartic process. The In-Stead Artist Collective artisans who create wood goods for the shop are:
The Woodpecker - Stephen Bennett
Gleaned wood, wasted material & other & natural or re-purposed elements yield functional art in Stephen Bennett’s collection of bed frames, mosaic tables (from leftover bed scraps & nostalgic wood elements), bird houses/feeders, coasters, a-frame signs, and more.
Commission work available. Live art in-shop daily.
Bob cruises alleys on trash day to find old furniture worth saving and gifting a new lifetime amongst other revitalized pieces in his “Resurrection Collection”. Bob has a way of preserving the patina while breathing new life into his rare coffee and end tables, bar stools, dining sets, and other unique pieces.
Sometimes it’s just a leg of a table that he’s able to save and convert into a hand-carved sea animal as homage to life on the planet and the impact mass-production has on our oceans. He also has custom hand-carved draft beer pulls available upon request.
Bob has been installed in art galleries around the world and we have the honor of housing two of his prized pieces: “Eve’s Tempter”, made of a 100 year old grape vine, petrified wood, chicken and beef bones, and diamond cut glass eyes that will follow you like the Mona Lisa.
Jerry creates furniture/functional art from reclaimed materials from his home-shop in North PB and brands it inconspicuously with his initials. Many of his pieces have found happy homes, yet we still have a chalk easel set made of New England lobster traps & scrap lumber, an A-frame chalkboard made from leftover pallets, and a beautiful salvaged wood pub-height table (leg height can be customized) with old teal accents from a redwood fence from the 60s sourced somewhere off of PB point.
The original Camp Kitchen table by Shiloh was moved over from our City Heights location and here for our first BLVD Market..a soft opening in December of 2014. It sold the first week of January and Shiloh happened to have another pallet table…he works at a machine shop in El Cajon and every once in a while puts together an indoor/outdoor picnic table with extra wood from shipping pallets that would have been thrown out. We plan to support Shiloh in his table-making/wood saving endeavors as long as he’s making them, so Camp Kitchen table is always for sale!
